Mumbai: Actress Janhvi Kapoor has revealed why she has not taken up a Malayalam film yet, admitting that she finds the language difficult to learn despite her admiration for it. As she gears up for the release of her upcoming Telugu film Peddi alongside Ram Charan, the actress spoke about her growing connection with South Indian cinema and her comfort with Telugu and Tamil languages.
Janhvi said she deeply appreciates Malayalam for its beauty and sweetness but does not see herself attempting to act in a Malayalam-language film in the near future due to the challenges of mastering the language.
Actress praises Malayalam language
During a recent interaction, Janhvi admitted that Malayalam remains one of the most difficult languages she has encountered.
“I don’t think I should attempt Malayalam again, because it’s too difficult. For me, it’s such a beautiful, sweet language,” she said.
The actress explained that while she enjoys exploring different regional film industries, learning and delivering dialogues in Malayalam is considerably more challenging for her compared to Telugu and Tamil.
Her comments reflect the growing trend of actors working across multiple language industries while adapting to different cultures and linguistic demands.
More comfortable with Telugu and Tamil
Janhvi shared that she has become more familiar with Telugu and Tamil due to her recent projects and interactions within South Indian cinema.
According to the actress, she feels phonetically more comfortable with these languages and is enjoying her journey in Telugu films.
“I am really enjoying working in Telugu films, and I would love to explore Tamil films,” she said.
She reiterated in another interview that although Malayalam is a beautiful language, Telugu and Tamil are easier for her to understand and perform in as an actor.
Connection with Malayalam cinema
Although Janhvi has not appeared in a direct Malayalam-language film, she already has ties to Malayalam cinema.
Her 2022 Hindi film Mili was the official remake of the acclaimed Malayalam thriller Helen.
More recently, she portrayed a character with strong Malayali roots in Param Sundari, a role that required her to engage more closely with Kerala’s culture and linguistic nuances.
These experiences, she said, have only increased her admiration for the language and the region’s storytelling traditions.
Telugu career gains momentum
Janhvi made her Telugu cinema debut with Devara, where she starred opposite Jr NTR.
The actress received a positive response from Telugu audiences, encouraging her to further expand her presence in the industry.
She will next be seen in Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The sports action drama features Ram Charan in the lead role and revolves around a villager who brings people together through sports.
The film also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu Sharma, Ravi Kishan and Boman Irani in key roles.
Expanding presence in South cinema
With projects spanning Hindi, Telugu and potentially Tamil cinema in the future, Janhvi continues to broaden her reach across the Indian film industry.
While Malayalam cinema remains an area she admires from afar, the actress believes her current strengths lie in Telugu and Tamil-language projects.
As Peddi prepares for release, Janhvi’s growing association with South Indian cinema appears set to become a significant part of her career journey.
