Normalcy has returned to Belfast after a few days of unrest. The city, famously known as the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, welcomed the first batch of India’s cricketing stars on Tuesday night. Slowly but surely, cricket fever is set to take over the city for the rest of the week. The series begins on June 26, but the chatter surrounding the Indian team has already started, as is usually the case wherever the reigning world champions travel.
First Wave of Indian Stars Arrive
Late on Tuesday night, the first batch of Indian players arrived in Belfast. They travelled from Chennai to Dublin before making the journey by road to the capital of Northern Ireland. The group included Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and the talk of the town, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Along with the players, several members of the support staff also arrived, with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, bowling coach Morne Morkel and fielding coach T Dilip among the most prominent names.
No Extra Security for Indian Team
A couple of weeks ago, riots broke out in Belfast. Local authorities issued alerts as violent protests erupted in public areas. As a result, there was some uncertainty over whether the series would go ahead in the city.
At the time, RevSportz was the first to report that the situation would come under control and that the series would proceed as planned. A few days later, Cricket Ireland issued a statement confirming that the two matches would be played as scheduled.
Contrary to reports suggesting that the Indian contingent would travel under tight security, that has not been the case. The first batch arrived without any security personnel accompanying the team.

Ever since Sooryavanshi was selected, there has been considerable buzz around him. A 15-year-old cricketer earning a place in the national team was always going to make headlines, and his selection has attracted significant media attention across the UK.
From Birmingham to Belfast, everyone seems to be talking about the teenage prodigy. The fanfare at the team hotel since Sooryavanshi’s arrival is a clear indication of his growing popularity.
