India Finalises 126-Member Contingent for Commonwealth Games 2026

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has shared details of India’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, where the country will be represented by 126 athletes across 10 disciplines and 113 medal events.

The government has spent ₹53.09 crore on preparations, with ₹48.90 crore allocated through the Annual Calendar for Training and Competition (ACTC) and ₹4.19 crore under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). The ministry has also appointed 15 foreign coaches across different disciplines.

The contingent includes 14 TOPS Core athletes, 14 TOPS Development athletes, seven TAGG athletes, 29 Khelo India Athletes, 33 National Coaching Camp athletes, 19 National Centres of Excellence athletes and nine others.

Athletics has received the highest allocation at ₹21.52 crore, followed by Boxing (₹10.27 crore) and Weightlifting (₹7.55 crore). Athletics will also have the largest representation with 32 athletes, while Boxing and Judo will each field 14 athletes.

As part of the preparations, Indian athletes have trained and competed in the USA, Poland, Switzerland, Turkey, South Africa, France, Ireland, England and the United Kingdom ahead of the Games.

The ministry also highlighted notable performances during the build-up to Glasgow. Indian athletes have broken 26 national records in athletics this year. Jasimine Lamboria is the current World No. 1 in the women’s 57kg boxing category. The lawn bowls team won 11 medals at the Asian Lawn Bowls Championships, while India’s para-athletes recorded one world record and one Asian record during the season.
