After a day of anticipation, Sri Lanka have announced their 16-member squad for the first Test against India, which will be played at the Galle International Stadium from August 15.
As earlier reported by RevSportz, Niroshan Dickwella, uncapped all-rounder Keshara Nuwantha, Dilshan Madushanka and Nishan Madushka have all made the cut, with Lahiru Kumara and Vishwa Fernando also included.
Keshara has earned his maiden Test call-up after an impressive showing for SLC XI in the recently played three-day practice game against India at the NCC. The off-spinner took the important wickets of Shubman Gill and KL Rahul.
With first-choice wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis out of the squad, the selectors have gone back to the experience of Dickwella, who has played 54 Test matches.
Nishan Madushka is all set to open the batting with Lahiru Udara, as Pathum Nissanka is still not match-fit.
Madushanka has earned a surprise recall after playing his last Test in 2023. Sri Lanka have given themselves another left-arm pace option, with Vishwa retaining his place.
Keshara, Ramesh Mendis, Prabath Jayasuriya, Sonal Dinusha, Kamindu Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva form Sri Lanka’s spin-bowling unit.
