Former England Test captain Ben Stokes has revealed that he wants to remain involved in cricket as a coach after his playing career and admitted that he would love to coach England. Stokes, who recently retired from international cricket, said he is already working towards his coaching qualifications.
Speaking on the For The Love of Cricket podcast, hosted by his former team-mates Stuart Broad and Jos Buttler, Stokes said he wants to prepare himself for life after playing by staying involved in the game.
“I know what I want to do in terms of staying within the game, which is to be a coach,” he said. “I’m doing my Level 3 coaching now while I’m still playing because, when the day comes that I’m not playing any more, I’d love to have all that stuff signed off and done.”
Stokes spent four years as England’s Test captain from 2022 and worked closely with Brendon McCullum during the team’s Bazball era.
He also made it clear that he has ambitions of taking charge of England in the future.
“And would I love to be coach of England one day? Absolutely,” he said. “I just really like the idea of being, again, in some form of leadership away from playing.”
