The International Cricket Council (ICC) is unlikely to take any action against the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over the video footage of Ben Stokes’ retirement speech inside the dressing room.
According to the BBC, the ECB will not face any issues for releasing the video of Stokes. It is understood that the ECB has responded to the ICC regarding the matter, and it has been resolved amicably.
Speaking after the day’s play in which he announced his retirement, Stokes explained that the timing of the public announcement during the match had been pre-arranged by his representatives in consultation with the ECB.
“I just said, ‘You guys work with Michael Lumb and Neil Fairbrother, who work with me, and you guys just come up with a plan’,” Stokes said.
Earlier, reports in the British media suggested that the ICC had formally written to the ECB over an alleged breach of the code of conduct during an international match. The letter reportedly referred to Article 2.2.11 of the Players’ and Match Officials’ Areas (PMOA) Minimum Standards, which it suggested had been breached.
Neither the ICC’s letter nor the ECB’s response has been made public, but it is understood that the matter has now been put to rest.
When reports emerged that the ICC had sought an explanation from the ECB, Stokes responded with a light-hearted jibe, posting “Sack him” on X.
