The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to keep USA Cricket and Cricket Canada under suspension after concluding its Annual Conference in Edinburgh, stating that both boards are yet to meet the governance standards required for reinstatement.

The suspensions, however, will not impact the participation of either country’s national teams in ICC events. The ICC will continue to oversee cricket operations to ensure players and ongoing programmes are not affected while both boards work towards meeting the requirements.

USA Cricket has been under suspension since September 2025 over governance concerns, including issues related to its administrative structure.

Cricket Canada, meanwhile, was suspended earlier this year for failing to comply with the ICC’s membership obligations.

The global governing body said it will continue to monitor progress before deciding on restoring full membership.

There was positive news for Mauritius, with the Mauritius Cricket Federation officially becoming the ICC’s newest Associate Member. The move is part of the ICC’s continued efforts to grow the game in emerging cricket nations.

The Annual Conference also concluded without a decision on two topics that have garnered significant attention in recent months: reducing One-Day Internationals from 50 overs to 40 overs and expanding the World Test Championship from nine to 12 teams.

Both proposals remain under discussion, with no changes approved at this stage.
