Despite mixed reviews and criticism for its outdated humour and alleged sexism, Tarun Mansukhani’s Housefull 5 continues to defy expectations at the box office. On Day 6 (Wednesday), the film added a solid ₹8 crore to its India net collection, taking its domestic total to ₹119 crore.
Now Among Top 3 Hindi Films of the Year
With ₹119 crore net in just six days, Housefull 5 has overtaken Salman Khan’s Sikandar (₹110.3 crore) to become the third-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025 so far. Only Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 (₹174 crore and still running) and Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava (a massive ₹601 crore) remain ahead.
Worldwide Collection Nears ₹200 Crore
Housefull 5 has also performed strongly overseas, grossing over $5 million, pushing its worldwide total past ₹185 crore as of Friday. It is expected to cross the ₹200 crore mark by the end of the week, which would make it the fourth Hindi film this year to reach that milestone.
This also makes Housefull 5 Akshay Kumar’s highest-grossing film of the year, surpassing Sky Force (₹168 crore) and Kesari Chapter 2 (₹144 crore).
Hit or Flop? It’s Complicated
While Housefull 5 is on track to be declared a superhit, its high production cost adds a layer of complexity. With an ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sanjay Dutt, and Jackie Shroff, and a lavish shoot aboard a luxury cruise, the film reportedly carries a ₹240 crore budget, making it India’s most expensive comedy to date.
Industry insiders say the film needs to cross ₹240 crore in net domestic earnings or ₹300 crore worldwide to be labeled a clean hit. While producers have already recovered a significant portion through satellite, digital, and music rights, distributors are watching closely to see if it delivers profitable theatrical returns.
For now, the film is not a flop, and if current trends hold, it may recover costs and move into hit territory in the coming days.
About the Film
Housefull 5 is a murder mystery wrapped in a comedy, set aboard a luxury cruise ship. When a billionaire (played by Ranjeet) dies, he leaves his fortune to “Jolly.” But there’s a twist — there are three Jollys on board (played by Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan). Things spiral out of control when the only person who can identify the real Jolly is murdered, and everyone becomes a suspect, including the three men and their girlfriends (played by Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, and Nargis Fakhri). Notably, the film was released with two alternate endings.
