Harit Yoga Unites Wellness and Sustainability Ahead of International Day of Yoga 2025

Published:

Bhubaneswar: In a landmark initiative blending personal wellness with environmental responsibility, the Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge), Shri Prataprao Jadhav, today launched ‘Harit Yoga’, one of the 10 Signature Events leading to the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025. The event was celebrated with fervor at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, where over 6,000 Yoga enthusiasts performed the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) and more than 5,000 medicinal plants were distributed.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Jadhav emphasized, “Our health is deeply intertwined with the health of the planet. While Yoga nurtures our mind and body, planting trees nourishes the Earth. Harit Yoga symbolizes this dual care for self and the environment.” He further aligned the initiative with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, calling it a symbolic act to promote ecological consciousness.

The event marks a major milestone in the 75-day countdown to the 11th edition of IDY. It follows Prime Minister Modi’s recent Mann ki Baat address where he reiterated the importance of fitness and unveiled the theme for IDY 2025 — “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”

Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha Ms. Pravati Parida lauded the event, highlighting Yoga’s transformative power and Odisha’s pride in hosting this key countdown celebration. MP Sambit Patra praised PM Modi’s global vision, recalling how 177 countries endorsed India’s proposal to designate June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, noted the overwhelming participation and predicted record-breaking global involvement in IDY 2025. The event also saw the presence of dignitaries including Monalisa Dash (Joint Secretary, Ayush), Bhubaneswar Mayor Ms. Sulochna Das, and Dr. Kashinath Samagandi, Director of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), whose team led the CYP demonstration.

The launch of ‘Harit Yoga’ also spotlighted India’s broader commitment to integrating Yoga into sustainable living. The Ministry of Ayush reaffirmed that this is part of 10 unique signature events building up to IDY 2025, including global collaborations, Yoga for marginalised groups, and a mega Yoga demonstration across one lakh locations.

10 Signature Events for IDY 2025:
  1. Yoga Sangama – Simultaneous Yoga sessions at 1,00,000 locations.
  2. Yoga Bandhan – Global partnerships for Yoga at iconic landmarks.
  3. Yoga Parks – Creation of 1,000 dedicated Yoga parks.
