Former India cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Bangarhas shared his views on the battle between Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar ahead of the high-stakes IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Speaking on JioHotstar, Bangar explained how Gill should approach one of RCB’s most effective bowlers.
“Against Bhuvneshwar Kumar, I would not suggest batters stand outside the crease or walking towards him because he’s quite sharp,” Bangar said. “If he sees you dancing down the track, he can slip in that straightish short ball quite nicely. He also has the knack of pulling his length back and, instead of swinging the ball, can get it to seam around. So, I would say play from the crease, let the ball come to you, and play as late as possible.”
Both Gill and Bhuvneshwar have been among the standout performers of the season. Gill currently sits second in the Orange Cap standings with 722 runs from 15 matches at an average of 48.13 and a strike rate of 163.71. Bhuvneshwar, meanwhile, is also second in the Purple Cap race, having claimed 26 wickets from 15 matches at an economy rate of 8.00.
Bangar also praised Gill’s innings against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2, saying: “The kind of innings that Shubman played in Chandigarh was, for me, probably the purest innings I’ve seen in a couple of years. He played those overs from Jofra Archer brilliantly, attacking and defending equally well, and he can do something similar against Bhuvneshwar Kumar too.”
GT will take on RCB at their home ground in Ahmedabad on Sunday, with both franchises seeking a second IPL title
