Day 2 of the BWF World Championships began with even fewer people in the stands compared to Day 1. The morning session felt quite subdued, but whenever Indian players stepped onto the court, they still had support behind them.
The first Indian match of the day saw Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde lose their contest. There was cheering while the match was on, but once it ended, the stands quickly went quiet.
A group of kids who usually play football were also present at the venue. They had come to enjoy the badminton matches and experience the atmosphere from the stands.
Unnati Hooda also got a good response from the crowd, with applause and cheers following her points.
There were a few small but noticeable changes at the venue compared to Day 1. More signboards had been put up, especially pointing towards the cafeteria and washrooms, which made things easier for spectators. Another washroom at the far end of the hall also came to light, which most people hadn’t noticed earlier.
Malaysian fans added their own flavour to the atmosphere, constantly chanting “Let’s go, let’s go” while backing their players.
By evening, the crowd had clearly grown. The noise level went up too. Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi got a strong reaction from the stands, and even when things weren’t going their way, the support didn’t dip. The chants of “Let’s go India, let’s go” kept coming regardless of the scoreline.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also had the crowd behind them. At one point, two matches were happening side by side on adjacent courts, and the audience kept switching their attention between both, reacting to every rally. It gave the hall a lively, almost split-focus energy.
Then came Lakshya Sen.
Just his name being announced changed the mood. The moment it was called out, the entire stadium picked up on it, with “Lakshya Sen, Lakshya Sen” echoing around.
Throughout his match, the support stayed loud. “Let’s go Lakshya, let’s go” came in waves from different sections of the crowd. After his win, he acknowledged the fans, took a few pictures, and spent a moment interacting with them.
What started as a quiet morning ended with a packed, noisy evening inside the stadium.
