The BWF World Championships 2026 ended with a day full of history, surprise winners and a packed crowd at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday.

France enjoyed its biggest day in World Championships history as Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue won the mixed doubles title before Alex Lanier added the men’s singles crown. Gicquel and Delrue, who were the bronze medallists last year, defeated top seeds Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping of China 22-20, 19-21, 21-15 in a hard-fought battle lasting 78 minutes. It was also France’s first World Championships gold.

Lanier then sealed a second title for France after beating Japan’s Kodai Naraoka 21-11, 21-11 in straight games.

Korea also finished with two gold medals. World No. 1 An Se Young regained the women’s singles crown after beating defending champion Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-14. Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee also ended Korea’s 31-year wait for a women’s doubles world title by defeating world No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China 21-15, 21-15. Lee, who is 32 years old, became the oldest women’s doubles world champion.

China also maintained its record of winning at least one title at every World Championships since 1983. Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang defeated Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 21-16, 21-17 for their first world title.

For India, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand received their women’s doubles bronze medals, giving the home crowd another reason to celebrate. With that, Delhi signed off with another strong show as fans filled the arena and gave the champions a memorable farewell.
