Lucknow, 24th Sept: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday claimed that centuries of foreign invasions and colonial rule not only exploited India’s resources but also led to a significant decline in the Hindu population. Speaking at a state-level workshop on ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat-Swadeshi Sankalp’ in Lucknow, he said the Hindu population, estimated at 60 crore in 1100 AD, had dropped to about 30 crore by Independence in 1947.
CM Yogi remarked, “By the year 1100, the Hindu population in India was 60 crore. And when the country gained independence in 1947, the Hindu population was only 30 crore. Tell me, should our population have increased or decreased in these 800–900 years?” He added that India had all the resources necessary for prosperity but suffered due to divisive policies by foreign rulers and individuals with a “foreign mentality” still creating societal divisions today.
Linking his remarks to self-reliance, the Chief Minister emphasized PM Narendra Modi’s Swadeshi campaign, stating it aims to empower Indian workers and youth. “They’ll point fingers at this Swadeshi campaign in every way. But the Prime Minister’s message is that we should promote whatever is made with the labour of Indian workers and the talent of our youth,” CM Yogi said.
The remarks coincided with the launch of Goods and Services Tax (GST) 2.0 by the central government on Monday. PM Modi, in a letter to citizens, announced the ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ (GST Savings Festival) linked to the reforms. He wrote, “As the nation celebrates the beginning of Navaratri, I extend heartfelt wishes to you and your families. From September 22nd, the Next Generation GST reforms have begun to make their presence felt, marking the start of a ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ across the country.”
The Prime Minister highlighted that these reforms will boost savings and directly benefit farmers, women, youth, the poor, middle-class individuals, traders, and MSMEs, encouraging growth, investment, and progress across all states and regions.
