England midfielder Jordan Henderson is expected to undergo a surgery on his broken arm. He is expected to be ruled out of the remainder of the FIFA World Cup. He snapped his arm while jumping over a advertisement billboard while celebrating England’s thrilling 3-2 win over Mexico at Azteca Stadium.
Soon after, Henderson was stretchered off and taken to a hospital in Mexico City. He was accompanied by a member of England’s support staff and did not travel back with the squad to their base in Kansas City.
In a conversation with BBC after the match, England head coach Thomas Tuchel said, “Jordan [Henderson] just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad.” He added, “It’s a quite serious injury and it doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital.”
Despite the setback, Henderson is keen to remain with the England squad for the rest of their games in the United States but is unlikely to play any part as a player.
England will next face, Norway in the quarterfinals in Miami Stadium.
