Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the incident bears the hallmarks of a deliberate attack and urged French authorities to conduct an urgent and thorough investigation. Zakharova emphasized that Russia expects swift action from France to bolster the security of Russian diplomatic missions.
“The blasts at the Russian consulate general in Marseille exhibit all the signs of a terrorist attack. We demand that the host country take immediate, thorough action to investigate the incident, as well as measures to improve the security of Russia’s foreign facilities,” Zakharova said.

The explosion follows recent warnings from Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), which claimed that Ukrainian forces were planning attacks on Russian diplomatic facilities across Europe. The SVR had specifically cautioned about possible threats in Germany, the Baltic nations, and Scandinavia, as well as in Slovakia and Hungary.
