ENG vs IND: Sanju Samson’s poor run continues with another low score against England

India opener Sanju Samson endured another disappointing outing as his struggle for runs in T20I cricket continued in the series opener against England at Chester-le-Street on Wednesday.

The wicketkeeper-batter, who was hoping to regain form after a difficult series against Ireland, once again failed to make the most of his opportunity, raising fresh questions over his place in India’s T20I setup.

Samson was dismissed for just one run off seven balls in the first T20I. Before the England series, he had managed only five runs in the two-match T20I series against Ireland, including a duck in the second match.

His IPL campaign reflected a similar pattern. Samson finished the season with 477 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 165.62, but his tally was boosted by two centuries. Excluding those innings, he managed only 261 runs in his remaining 12 matches at an average of 21.75, highlighting his inconsistency throughout the tournament.

With Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waiting for his debut cap, the pressure is now on Samson to retain his spot in the T20I side. If he fails to score runs, India could bring Sooryavanshi in at the top of the order.
