Devotees across India commenced the four-day Chhath Puja celebrations on October 25, 2025, by observing the Nahay Khay ritual, marking the festival’s auspicious beginning. The ritual involves taking holy baths, cleaning homes, and consuming sattvic meals to honor the Sun God and promote spiritual purity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to citizens, highlighting Chhath Puja’s message of harmony, faith, and respect for nature. In a gesture to support public participation, the Delhi government declared October 27 a public holiday to facilitate observance of the Sandhya Arghya, the evening offering to the setting sun.
Rooted in ancient Vedic traditions, Chhath Puja celebrates gratitude toward the Sun God for sustaining life and well-being. The festival, known for its eco-friendly rituals, brings together communities from Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and other regions, extending now into urban centers and the Northeast, reflecting its growing national significance.
