Bengaluru, 23rd Sept: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today defended his government’s efforts to fix Bengaluru’s battered roads, remarking that potholes are a nationwide problem—even outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar, who also handles Bengaluru development, said, “Two hundred potholes are being filled in every corporation area daily. About 1,000 potholes are being filled in a day in Bengaluru.”

He added that criticism focused solely on Karnataka is unfair. “I went to Delhi. I saw potholes there, including in front of the Prime Minister’s house. These issues exist everywhere. It’s a problem across the country,” he said.

Shivakumar also took a swipe at the previous BJP government, asserting that if roads had been properly maintained earlier, the current crisis could have been avoided.

The remarks came after BlackBuck CEO Rajesh Yabaji highlighted long commutes and “roads full of potholes and dust,” prompting speculation that the logistics firm might leave the city. Yabaji later clarified that the company will remain in Bengaluru but relocate its office within the city.

Shivakumar reiterated that Bengaluru remains unmatched in infrastructure for businesses: “Before they came to Bengaluru, they saw what it offers and then made a decision.”
