New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi has officially inaugurated its newly renovated Terminal 2 (T2), marking a major milestone in the airport’s modernization plan. The revamped terminal, designed to handle increasing passenger traffic with greater efficiency and comfort, will resume operations this Sunday.

The renovation of T2—carried out by the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL)—focused on upgrading passenger amenities, expanding check-in capacity, and improving sustainability standards. The terminal can now handle up to 15 million passengers annually, easing congestion at Terminals 1 and 3.

Among the new features introduced at T2 are:

  • Automated check-in kiosks and baggage drop counters to reduce wait times.

  • A modern security screening system equipped with advanced scanning technology.

  • Enhanced retail and dining spaces, offering both Indian and international brands.

  • Energy-efficient lighting, solar power integration, and green-certified materials to promote sustainability.

  • Improved connectivity to the Delhi Metro and airport shuttle services for smooth inter-terminal transfers.

During the inauguration ceremony, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said, “The upgraded Terminal 2 reflects India’s vision for world-class aviation infrastructure. It combines technology, comfort, and sustainability to deliver an enhanced passenger experience.”

Domestic airlines including IndiGo and SpiceJet are expected to begin flight operations from T2 starting Sunday morning, with passengers advised to check their terminal details before arriving at the airport to avoid confusion.

With the reopening of Terminal 2, IGI Airport is now equipped to manage the growing air traffic demand as Delhi continues to remain one of Asia’s busiest aviation hubs.
