Dakota Johnson is stepping into summer — and singlehood — with style and grace. The actress was spotted enjoying a sun-soaked getaway with friend Kate Hudson aboard a yacht in Ibiza, Spain, on July 1. Johnson wore a minimalist white bikini, her hair loose and carefree, embracing the season and a new chapter in her life.
The outing comes on the heels of her press tour for Materialists, during which People reported that Johnson and longtime partner Chris Martin had quietly ended their eight-year relationship. “It feels final this time,” a source told the outlet, noting that the couple had experienced on-and-off periods before the final split.
While Johnson has yet to publicly comment on the breakup, she has always kept her relationship with the Coldplay frontman largely private. A source close to the actress told People on June 23 that she is “doing well” in the wake of the separation.
“The split wasn’t exactly a shock,” the insider explained. “They had the same issues for a while. She wants to live her life very intentionally—she doesn’t want to have any regrets. She loves all her creative projects and is excited about her career. But she also wants a meaningful life beyond just work.”
In a recent interview with ELLE UK, Johnson reflected on her own relationship experiences while promoting Materialists, a film in which she plays a matchmaker. She revealed that the world of dating apps and matchmaking is unfamiliar to her.
“[I] loved that Celine [Song] used to be a matchmaker in real life,” she said. “I find the whole concept of the film so interesting, because it’s so foreign to me. I’ve never dated anybody. I’ve had boyfriends, but I have never been on a dating app. I just don’t know that world. It’s the most beautiful side of humanity, but it can also be the most ugly. Loving someone is the most scary and beautiful thing you can do.”
With her career thriving and a renewed focus on intentional living, Johnson seems to be entering this next phase with clarity, creativity — and a summer full of possibilities.
