Ranchi, 9th Aug: A CID investigation into the 2024 Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination has reportedly found evidence of a large-scale paper leak, contradicting the state government’s earlier decision to give the examination a clean chit. The findings have surfaced amid ongoing student protests in Ranchi demanding reforms in the state’s recruitment process.
According to documents accessed by NDTV, the CID concluded in March 2025 that 120 out of 150 questions in the JSSC-CGL examination had been leaked before the test. The report alleged that the question papers and answer keys were circulated through WhatsApp and shared with candidates at multiple locations, including Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur, Patna, parts of West Bengal and even Nepal.
The report further claimed that candidates who had allegedly paid for access were provided with answer keys before the examination. Some aspirants also alleged that answers were dictated over landline phones to avoid detection after internet services had been suspended across Jharkhand as a preventive measure.
The JSSC-CGL examination was conducted on September 21 and 22, 2024, after an earlier examination had been cancelled over allegations of a paper leak. Despite the CID’s reported findings, the Jharkhand government later constituted a second Special Investigation Team (SIT), which reportedly ruled out any irregularities and effectively cleared the examination.
Student petitioner Jeet Kumar claimed that candidates had received answer keys before the examination and later verified their accuracy after the test. According to him, copies of the answers and photographs bearing timestamps from the morning of the examination have been submitted before a Ranchi court as evidence.
The controversy has gained renewed attention following allegations of another paper leak in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examination, triggering widespread protests across the state.
Led by student leader Devendra Nath Mahto, the agitation has entered its 16th day at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi. Several rounds of discussions between the state government and student representatives have so far failed to produce a resolution.
Jharkhand Minister Deepika Singh, who participated in the talks, acknowledged the concerns raised by students and said the government was considering their suggestions.
“The students have offered excellent suggestions and raised valid concerns. The government is ready to address them. We simply need to wait a little and see what happens next,” she said.
The protests continue as students demand a transparent investigation into alleged examination irregularities and broader reforms in the state’s recruitment system.
