Chennai is set to enhance voter support services by establishing dedicated voter help centres across 947 polling booths to assist citizens with the submission of SIR (Self-Identification Request) forms. The initiative aims to simplify the correction and verification process for electoral details ahead of the upcoming electoral roll revision.
According to officials, these help centres will guide voters in updating personal information, correcting discrepancies, and ensuring accurate voter records. Specially trained staff will be deployed at each centre to provide hands-on support for filling out SIR forms and addressing queries related to voter ID details.
The Election Department has emphasised that the centres will operate on designated days to maximize public participation. The move is expected to benefit thousands of residents, particularly senior citizens and first-time voters, who often face difficulties in navigating documentation requirements.
Authorities stated that improving accessibility and strengthening voter services remain key priorities as Chennai prepares for the next phase of electoral activities. The opening of voter help centres across such a vast network of booths marks a significant step toward ensuring transparency and efficiency in the voter registration process.
