The Chennai Open is set for its third edition after the Tamil Nadu government announced the allocation of Rs 10 crores for the WTA 250 tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from November 2-8 at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Nungambakkam, Chennai. They will once again invite world-class women tennis talent during the WTA’s Asian swing.
The government’s approval of Rs 10 crore now fulfills its portion of proposal, ensuring that the tournament can take place seamlessly. The announcement was made following a meeting between Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, Vijay Amritraj and a TNTA delegation at the Secretariat, after which the state confirmed that the event would be jointly organized by the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT).
The successful staging of both ATP and WTA events reflects Tamil Nadu’s continued investment in international sport, and it marks a significant milestone for Indian tennis.
The WTA 250 tournament will feature 32 players in the singles draw and 16 teams in the doubles draw. The final player list, including the Indian wild card entries will be announced closer to the tournament.
