Mangaluru: A CCTV trail and information from police informants have helped Urwa police arrest a 40-year-old man allegedly involved in the theft of a Honda Dio scooter from Kodikal in Mangaluru.
Accused arrested after scooter theft
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Faizal alias Thota Faizal, 40, son of late Ibrahim, and a resident of Baitul Kausar, New Thota House, Kodi, Ullal, Mangaluru.
The case was registered at Urwa police station on July 24 after a Honda Dio bearing registration number KA-19-EB-2226, parked in front of a house at Kodikal, was reported stolen.
Following the complaint, police examined CCTV footage from surrounding areas to trace the suspect. The footage helped investigators track his movements and identify his appearance. Information from police informants subsequently helped establish his identity and whereabouts.
Police recover stolen two-wheeler
Police traced the accused along with the stolen scooter and arrested him on Tuesday, August 18.
During the investigation, police also found that Faizal allegedly has an extensive criminal record. According to police, more than 40 cases have been registered against him at various police stations across Karnataka and Kerala.
Warrants pending in several cases
Police further said arrest warrants are pending against the accused in cases registered at North Mangaluru, Konaje, Ullal, Moodbidri, Bantwal Rural and Manipal police stations.
The present case has been registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Further investigation is under way to establish more details related to the theft and the accused’s alleged involvement in other cases.
