New Delhi, 1st Aug: The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has dismantled an inter-state counterfeit drug network in Bihar under ‘Operation Vajra’, arresting the alleged mastermind and uncovering eight illegal medicine godowns and an illicit manufacturing facility, the government said on Saturday.
The operation, carried out by the CBN’s Madhya Pradesh Unit, targeted facilities operating in Gaya and Masaurhi in Patna that were allegedly being used for the illegal manufacture and storage of narcotic drugs and counterfeit medicines.
The latest action was part of an investigation into a case registered in 2025. An earlier follow-up operation had led to the busting of four illegal godowns in Gaya and seizure of 68,200 Tramadol tablets, 59,000 other tablets and 52,542 bottles of Codeine syrup.
Mastermind Arrested After Surveillance
Following technical and human intelligence gathering, the CBN arrested the main accused on July 22. Information obtained during the investigation subsequently led officials to additional facilities allegedly linked to the network.
Between July 16 and 27, the Preventive Section of the CBN’s Madhya Pradesh Unit in Neemuch conducted surveillance and field operations across Bihar.
Investigators found that an absconding accused had allegedly resumed operations from illegal godowns in Gaya’s Khanjahanpur area for storing illicitly manufactured narcotic drugs and other spurious medicines.
Searches at two unregistered and unauthorised godowns led to the recovery of 21,373 unauthorised Buprenorphine injection ampoules.
Officials also recovered large quantities of allegedly counterfeit and spurious non-NDPS medicines, including Clavam-625, PAN-40, Betadine Ointment and Azithral, among other pharmaceutical products.
Further operations with local police identified six additional unauthorised godowns. The seized stock and sealed premises were subsequently handed over to the Bihar State Drug Administration for further legal action.
According to the government, the State Drug Department seized 439,774 tablets and capsules, 1,895 injections, vials and ampoules, 3,811 syrup bottles and 3,490 other pharmaceutical preparations from the illegal godowns.
Illicit Manufacturing Unit Dismantled
Investigators also received information about an illicit manufacturing unit operating from a farmhouse near Masaurhi in Patna.
A joint search by the CBN, local police and officials from the state Drug and Food departments led to the recovery of manufacturing machinery, equipment, chemicals and artificial flavouring agents.
The facility was dismantled and the machinery and other materials were seized under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
According to investigators, the syndicate allegedly rented premises in low-income localities without tenancy agreements, paid rent in cash to avoid digital trails and used mobile connections obtained through forged identity documents.
The CBN said its Madhya Pradesh Unit has registered 90 cases, busted three illicit laboratories and arrested 121 suspects so far in 2026.
The agency reiterated its commitment to dismantling organised drug trafficking networks and taking action against those involved in the illicit manufacture, storage and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
