New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in connection with a bribery case involving ₹2.5 lakh, officials said.
According to sources, the senior aviation official was apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe from a private party in exchange for granting regulatory clearances and facilitating official approvals. The arrest was made following a complaint that accused the official of demanding illegal gratification.
CBI teams laid a trap after verifying the allegations, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. Subsequent searches were carried out at the official’s premises, where investigators are examining documents and electronic records related to the case.
The agency has registered a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway to identify any wider nexus or involvement of other officials.
The incident has raised serious concerns over transparency and accountability within aviation regulatory bodies, prompting calls for stricter vigilance and oversight mechanisms.
