One more day at the Shooting National Trials was full of excitement and anticipation, but what was different was the calmness and preparation behind the scenes. With not many finals or tense qualification rounds, the day was mostly dominated by pre-event training. The shooters participating in the 10m Air Pistol Men, 50m Rifle Men and Women, and 50m Rifle Prone Men and Women events were seen training throughout the day. All three of these categories are set to hold their respective finals on Wednesday, August 12, hence preparations were in full swing.

The only final that took place was the 25m Women’s Pistol round, with plenty of participants showing a lot of potential and promise. Despite the rain, the women stood their ground and delivered some of the best performances. Simranpreet Kaur Brar of Punjab, who is also the winner of various silver and gold medals across different ISSF World Cups, secured the first position. Her brilliance left a strong impression as she finished the round with 40 magnificent hits. She showed dominance and consistency throughout and concluded the final round with a stellar 5 out of 5 hits, earning praise and applause from all. She had qualified in the number five position with a total of 579.

Haryana’s Rhythm Sangwan clinched the second spot with a total of 35 hits. She ended up being a part of a tense shoot-off with Abhidnya Ashok to finally claim the second position, making perfect use of her sheer accuracy. The latter ended up at number three with a total of 32 hits. Both of them had secured the second and third positions, respectively, in the qualification round as well, with totals of 583 and 581.

Several Asian Games-bound athletes were seen training. These included Cairo World Championship gold medallist Tilottama Sen, world No. 18 Ashi Chouksey and Olympic bronze medallist Manu Bhaker. However, despite the focus being on the Asian Games squad members, others are also performing diligently and putting up tough competition, which clearly reflects the fact that there is no dearth of shooting talent in India.
