Bharat’s Democracy Under Fire: Congress’s Reckless Strategy

Published:

Paromita Das

New Delhi, 15th September: When the story of modern Bharat is written, one of its most remarkable chapters will highlight how, despite its dizzying diversity, political turbulence, and periodic unrest, the nation has stayed committed to democracy. Unlike its neighbors—Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, or Bangladesh—Bharat has refused to succumb to violent revolutions. The ballot box, not the bullet, has been the ultimate arbiter of power.

Even when tested by wars, terrorism, insurgencies, and ideological extremism, Bharat has never allowed democratic transfer of power to be hijacked by street mobs. This resilience, however, is under a new threat. Having lost three consecutive elections to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress ecosystem—comprising party leaders, partisan journalists, social media trolls, and ideological sympathizers—appears to be embracing a reckless strategy: encouraging Bharat’s youth to flirt with violent protest, inspired by Nepal’s tragic example.

Nepal’s Descent into Anarchy

The Congress ecosystem’s glorification of Nepal’s “youth revolution” should worry anyone who values democracy. What began in Kathmandu as a movement against corruption soon descended into a bloody inferno. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was forced to resign as mobs torched homes, vandalized parliament, and stormed ministerial residences. At least 19 young protesters lost their lives. Historic landmarks were set ablaze, political leaders were beaten in the streets, and even sacred temples came under attack.

The so-called revolutionaries, once hailed as heroes, splintered almost immediately, leaving Nepal scarred by instability and economic devastation. Yet, this chaos is precisely what some Congress sympathizers romanticize for Bharat—a dangerous fantasy that disregards the human cost of mob violence.

From Frustration to Recklessness

Congress’s flirtation with violent rhetoric springs from a simple truth: the party has failed repeatedly to win Bharat’s confidence at the ballot box. Despite media backing, NGO networks, and dynastic leadership, it has shrunk to its weakest position in independent Bharat. Instead of reinventing itself, Congress has grown bitter, leaning on provocative narratives to stir unrest.

When Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate posted a viral video contrasting privileged BJP children with protesting Bharatiya youth, the message was unmistakable: fuel anger, sow jealousy, and hint at rebellion. Likewise, Rahul Gandhi’s online supporters have praised Nepalese protesters for their “courage” and called on Bharatiya to emulate them. Even after deleting some of these posts, the damage was done. Once the seed of violent protest is planted in young minds, it risks taking root.

The Hypocrisy of Dynastic Outrage

What makes this rhetoric more galling is the hypocrisy at its core. Congress voices rail against the “privilege” of BJP leaders’ children while ignoring the dynastic privilege of Rahul Gandhi, a fifth-generation political heir. From Motilal Nehru to Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and now Rahul himself, Congress has clung to hereditary leadership like no other party in the democratic world.

Meanwhile, many BJP leaders, including Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, rose from humble beginnings. Their political standing was earned through decades of grassroots work, not bestowed by family lineage. To portray their children’s opportunities as an outrage while justifying the Gandhi family’s entitlements is not only dishonest but deliberately misleading.

The Dangers of Playing with Fire

Violence as a political tool is a dangerous gamble for Bharat. It risks unraveling decades of stability that underpin the country’s rise. Investor confidence, which drives Bharat’s booming economy and global reputation, could evaporate overnight if mob uprisings replaced democratic debate.

Beyond economics, violent politics threatens Bharat’s delicate social fabric. A nation of multiple languages, faiths, and communities cannot afford to normalize rebellion. If one group turns to violence, others will inevitably follow, creating a patchwork of insurgencies. History is clear: Sri Lanka’s civil war, Pakistan’s jihadist uprisings, and Nepal’s Maoist revolution all show that violence sets nations back by decades.

Bharat’s miracle lies in having resisted this temptation. For Congress to now court it, even rhetorically, is not just short-sighted—it is perilous.

Rahul Gandhi and the Calculated Silence

Perhaps the most telling sign of bad faith is the silence surrounding Rahul Gandhi himself. If the outrage against privilege were genuine, it would apply to him first. Instead, Congress supporters single out BJP leaders’ children while shielding their own dynastic masters. This reveals the true intent: not reforming politics, but destabilizing it.

A Dangerous Gamble with Bharat’s Future

At its heart, Congress’s rhetoric is an admission of defeat. Unable to inspire the electorate, it seeks chaos as a substitute for legitimacy. But Bharat is too vast, too diverse, and too critical on the world stage to risk such an experiment.

If the youth are pushed toward street battles instead of classrooms, startups, and innovation, Bharat will suffer a generational loss. The very energy that should build the nation will be squandered in destruction. And once the culture of violent politics takes hold, history shows it rarely fades.

Choosing Stability Over Chaos

Bharat’s story since independence has been one of noisy but stable democracy. Through all its contradictions, it has chosen the ballot box over bullets, reform over rebellion, and creation over destruction. For Congress to now romanticize violent upheaval is reckless and irresponsible.

The people have spoken thrice at the ballot box in Modi’s favor. If Congress refuses to listen and instead pushes Bharat toward chaos, it will not be remembered as a party of governance, but as one that gambled with the nation’s future.

Bharat’s destiny lies not in repeating the mistakes of its neighbors but in staying the course of stability, growth, and democracy. The choice is clear—and it is one the people will defend with their vote, not violence.
