Novus Royals Purulia’s maiden Women’s Bengal T20 League campaign came to an end with the team finishing outside the qualification spots. The results might not go in their favour, but the debutants showed great commitment and determination throughout the tournament.
Playing their first season in the competition, Purulia faced tough challenges against more experienced teams. The side has registered one win from seven matches, while two games were abandoned due to rain.
The team started their campaign on a positive note with a six-run (DLS method) win over Kolkata Royal Tigers. But they were unable to continue their momentum throughout the season. One of their closest games was against Rashmi NES Medinipur Wizards, where they fell short by just one run.
Speaking in a video released by the franchise on their Instagram page, head coach Rumeli Dhar praised the team’s attitude and the support provided by the management.
“Novus Purulia is a very supportive team. The franchise supported us really well. As newcomers making our debut in the league, everyone has been supportive. We are a young group and we worked hard on both batting and bowling,” Rumeli said.
The season has provided valuable experience for a young squad. The players gained exposure against strong opposition and showed intent to learn and improve.
While the women’s team has ended its debut campaign, Novus Royals Purulia’s journey in the Bengal T20 League still continues. The men’s side has qualified for the semi-finals and will face Shrachi Rarh Tigers on June 20 at Eden Gardens.
