India A began the second unofficial Test on a positive note in Galle, picking up regular wickets after Sri Lanka A opted to bat first.

Yash Thakur provided the first breakthrough before Gurnoor Brar and Saransh Jain chipped in, ensuring the hosts never ran away with the game in the opening session.

Just when India A looked set to build pressure, Sri Lanka A found stability through captain Sahan Arachchige. Walking in after two wickets had fallen, he anchored the innings with an unbeaten 83, batting with patience and composure.

Valuable contributions from Nuwanidu Fernando (44), Ashen Bandara (34), and Anjala Bandara (42) kept the scoreboard moving and gave the captain the support he needed.

Despite taking five wickets, India A struggled to stop Sri Lanka A from putting together crucial partnerships.

Every breakthrough was followed by a steady rebuild, allowing the hosts to close Day 1 at 288/5.

While the visitors showed discipline with the ball in patches, they will be looking for early wickets on the second morning to stop Sri Lanka A from posting a commanding first-innings total and wrestle back control of the match.
