Ammonia Gas Leak at Ice Factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam Triggers Panic, Situation Under Control

Published:

Ratlam: An ammonia gas leak at an ice factory in Ratlam district’s Jaora town late Tuesday night triggered panic among residents and workers, prompting swift action by local authorities to contain the situation.

The incident occurred around 10:30 pm at Porwal Ice Factory, following which police, fire brigade, and administrative teams rushed to the site. According to Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Trilochan Gaud, the leakage was promptly detected and swiftly contained.

“Prima facie, it was an ammonia leak. Police and administration immediately acted by spraying water to neutralise the gas and successfully stopped the leak,” said Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar.

Some individuals affected by the gas were given medical treatment, though officials did not disclose the exact number or severity of their conditions.

A police line situated adjacent to the factory helped in early detection of the leak, as personnel on night patrol sensed the gas and responded swiftly, officials said.

“The gas leak was not a major one, and it was brought under control quickly,” SDM Gaud stated. He confirmed that factory workers were immediately evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have assured that the situation is under control and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
