Alia Bhatt’s ‘Alpha’ preponed to July 3 release

Published:

Mumbai: Fans of Alia Bhatt and Sharvari are set to witness their upcoming action entertainer Alpha earlier than expected, with the film’s release reportedly advanced by one week.

The film was initially scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 10 but will now reportedly release on July 3.

Release shifted after ‘Dhamaal 4’ postponement

According to industry sources quoted by Bollywood Hungama, the decision was taken after Dhamaal 4 was pushed from July 3 to July 17, creating an open release window at the box office.

A source from a multiplex chain reportedly stated that producer Aditya Chopra considered July 3 an ideal date due to the absence of any major Bollywood release during that week.

Trade analysts believe the move could provide Alpha with a stronger theatrical run before the arrival of major competing releases later in the month.

Industry experts also pointed out that The Odyssey is expected to release on July 17 alongside Dhamaal 4, making the earlier release strategically beneficial.

Part of YRF Spy Universe

Alpha is the latest instalment in the expanding YRF Spy Universe.

Apart from Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the film also stars Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in key roles.

The project is directed by Shiv Rawail, who earlier directed the acclaimed series The Railway Men.

The film has generated considerable anticipation as it marks the first female-led entry in the YRF Spy Universe franchise.

Alia Bhatt reportedly plays an assassin

Reports suggest that Alia Bhatt will portray a significantly different character compared to previous leads in the spy universe.

According to trade sources, the actor is expected to play an assassin rather than a conventional spy, introducing a darker and morally grey lead character to the franchise.

“Alpha is definitely a major turn for the YRF Spy Universe,” a senior trade source reportedly told Bollywood Hungama.

The source added that the film would present a protagonist with anti-hero characteristics, offering a fresh direction for the franchise.

“For the first time, Aditya Chopra is giving us an origin story that introduces a character that is more grey, more of an anti-hero in tonality,” the source reportedly said.

Film among most anticipated action releases

The film has emerged as one of Bollywood’s most awaited action entertainers due to its star cast, franchise connection and female-led narrative.

Fans have also shown strong interest in the pairing of Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, particularly after behind-the-scenes glimpses from training and action rehearsals surfaced online earlier.

With the revised release strategy, the makers are expected to intensify promotions in the coming weeks ahead of the July 3 theatrical debut.
