In the opening match of the England-India T20I series, Indian opener Abhishek Sharma produced a record-breaking innings of 59 from just 24 deliveries at a staggering strike rate of 245.83. His sensational knock featured four sixes and six fours.
Despite India losing the crucial wickets of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, Abhishek stood firm with his fearless stroke play and refused to let England capitalise on the new-ball friendly conditions. He raced to a blistering half-century in just 20 deliveries. He took on Luke Wood, Liam Dawson, Saqib Mahmood, Will Jacks and Adil Rashid before eventually being dismissed by Sam Curran in the ninth over.
Abhishek also made history by becoming the fastest batter to hit 100 T20I sixes. He reached the milestone in a world-record 785 deliveries, surpassing the previous mark of 789 balls set by West Indies batter Evin Lewis. He is now the first left-hand Indian batter to join the elite 100-sixes club, alongside legends such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The innings served as another reminder of Abhishek’s growing stature in international cricket. He has established himself as one of the world’s premier T20 batters and India’s first-choice opener, once again delivering when his team needed him most and laying the foundation for a commanding total.
