NDA Sweeps Bihar Elections with 198 Seats; Nitish Kumar Poised for Fifth Term as Chief Minister

Published:

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) delivered a sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, securing an impressive 198 out of 243 seats and paving the way for Nitish Kumar to return as Chief Minister for a historic fifth term. The results, declared late Friday evening, mark one of the NDA’s most decisive wins in the state.

The JD(U)-BJP alliance outperformed expectations across all regions, with strong voter turnout contributing to a clear mandate. Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and the BJP together dominated both rural and urban constituencies, signaling widespread support for the alliance’s governance model and welfare initiatives.

Addressing party workers after the win, Nitish Kumar expressed gratitude to the people of Bihar for their “overwhelming trust” and vowed to continue working toward development, improved infrastructure, and job creation. Senior BJP leaders also hailed the victory, calling it a testament to the NDA’s stability and long-term vision for the state.

The opposition, led by the RJD and Congress, faced a significant setback, managing far fewer seats than anticipated. Analysts say internal divisions, weak campaign momentum, and a strong NDA narrative contributed to the opposition’s underperformance.

With the NDA comfortably crossing the majority mark, preparations for government formation are already underway. Nitish Kumar is expected to take oath next week, marking another chapter in his long-standing leadership of Bihar.

Political observers believe this landslide win strengthens the NDA’s position in eastern India and sets the tone for future national political battles.
