A major boiler explosion occurred at a chemical manufacturing company in Bharuch, Gujarat, early Wednesday morning, leaving multiple workers injured and causing significant damage to the facility.
According to initial reports, the blast took place at around 10:15 a.m. at a plant located in the Dahej industrial area, which houses several chemical and pharmaceutical units. The explosion triggered a massive fire, visible from several kilometers away, prompting an immediate response from local fire brigades and disaster management teams.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by flames and thick smoke, with workers running for safety. District officials confirmed that firefighters from Bharuch and nearby towns have been deployed to contain the blaze, while rescue teams are searching for trapped workers inside the affected unit.
“The cause of the blast is yet to be determined, but preliminary findings suggest a boiler malfunction or pressure buildup,” said a senior fire officer at the scene. Authorities have sealed the area and initiated an investigation into possible safety lapses and violations of industrial protocols.
Local hospitals have been placed on high alert, and injured workers are being treated for burns and inhalation injuries. The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has also dispatched a team to assess potential environmental damage due to the chemical spill.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed concern over the incident and has directed officials to ensure prompt medical aid and conduct a detailed inquiry.
The incident highlights ongoing safety challenges in Gujarat’s industrial zones, which contribute significantly to India’s chemical and manufacturing output.
