The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is gearing up to significantly expand its EV charging infrastructure for heavy commercial vehicles, a move aimed at accelerating the city’s shift toward cleaner and more sustainable public transport.
Officials said new high-capacity charging stations will be installed across key bus depots and transit hubs to support Delhi’s growing fleet of electric buses. The upgraded infrastructure will include fast-charging systems capable of handling large battery packs, ensuring quicker turnaround times and improved operational efficiency.
The expansion is part of Delhi’s broader clean mobility roadmap, which focuses on reducing vehicular emissions and promoting electric transportation. With more electric buses joining the fleet in the coming months, the city is preparing its charging ecosystem to keep pace with rising demand.
DTC engineers are working with energy companies and technology partners to design a network that meets the unique needs of heavy commercial EVs, including higher voltage requirements and round-the-clock charging availability.
Transport experts say the move will not only strengthen Delhi’s public transport reliability but also set a benchmark for other Indian cities planning large-scale EV transitions. The new charging stations are expected to become operational in phases, with completion targeted within the next year.
