Shreyas Iyer Discharged from Hospital, to Stay in Sydney Until Full Recovery

Published:

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydney hospital after undergoing medical treatment for a back-related issue but will remain in Australia until he completes his recovery, sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Saturday.

Iyer, who was part of India’s ongoing series in Australia, was admitted earlier this week following complaints of discomfort during training. Medical assessments revealed that while his condition is stable, doctors have advised rest and observation before he resumes physical activity.

“Shreyas is recovering well and has been discharged from the hospital. He will continue to stay in Sydney under medical supervision until he’s fully fit to travel,” a BCCI official said.

The right-handed batsman has faced recurring back and spine issues over the past year, which also kept him out of several key matches, including parts of the IPL and Asia Cup. His extended stay in Sydney is seen as a precautionary measure to ensure complete rehabilitation before returning to competitive cricket.

Team India’s management has reportedly made arrangements for his rehabilitation and physiotherapy sessions in Australia, with updates on his fitness to be shared in the coming weeks.

Fans have flooded social media with get-well messages, hoping for Iyer’s speedy return to the squad ahead of India’s next major series.
