In a fresh twist to Bihar’s political landscape, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday hinted at a strategic realignment within the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan), stating that the Congress would play a decisive role if a new government is formed in the state. His statement has sparked intense political discussions, especially with Assembly elections approaching next year.
During a public rally in Patna, Rahul Gandhi said, “If the Grand Alliance forms the government in Bihar again, it will not be run from Delhi but by the people of Bihar. This time, the decisions will be taken collectively.” His remarks were seen as a subtle message aimed at JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, indicating Congress’s desire for greater influence in the alliance.
Political analysts believe Gandhi’s comments are part of a larger Congress strategy to strengthen its footing in Bihar after years of limited presence. The statement also comes at a time when discontent within the Grand Alliance has been growing over seat-sharing and leadership issues.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders have criticized Gandhi’s remarks, calling them “a desperate political move” by a party that has lost ground in the state. Bihar BJP spokesperson Nikhil Anand said, “Rahul Gandhi’s so-called trick will not work in Bihar. People have seen through the opportunism of the Grand Alliance.”
The political equations in Bihar remain fluid, with shifting alliances and backchannel talks reportedly underway. Rahul Gandhi’s latest statement has added a new dimension to the pre-election narrative, suggesting that the Congress intends to assert itself more strongly in state politics this time.
