Guwahati Test to Feature a Tea Break Before Lunch Break Due to Early Start Time

Published:

In a rare scheduling adjustment, the Guwahati Test match will feature a tea break before the lunch break, officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Thursday. The change has been made to accommodate early morning playing conditions and ensure optimal daylight use during the match.

The Test, which begins this week at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, is scheduled to start earlier than usual due to heavy dew and shorter daylight hours in the region. As a result, match officials have decided to reverse the order of the traditional breaks, with tea being taken first, followed by lunch later in the day.

“This decision has been taken keeping in mind the local weather patterns and player comfort,” a senior BCCI official said. “Such flexibility is allowed under ICC regulations when conditions demand a change in session timings.”

The move has generated curiosity among fans and players alike, as it is a rare occurrence in Test cricket. Traditionally, the sequence of breaks follows lunch first, then tea, but exceptional circumstances such as climatic or logistical constraints can prompt changes.

The Guwahati pitch is expected to offer early movement for fast bowlers, making the morning session crucial. Cricket analysts believe the adjusted schedule could influence team strategies, especially in the first innings.
