Weather Alert: Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rains, Palghar District Announces School Closure

Published:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Mumbai and adjoining districts, prompting authorities in Palghar to announce the closure of schools on Monday as a precautionary measure.

According to the IMD, intense showers are likely to lash parts of Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar over the next 24 hours. The weather department has issued a yellow alert, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

In view of the forecast, the Palghar district administration declared a holiday for all schools, ensuring the safety of students and staff. Authorities have also advised residents to avoid waterlogged areas and stay updated on weather bulletins.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s civic body (BMC) has activated its disaster response teams and deployed additional personnel in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Traffic police have urged commuters to plan their journeys carefully, as heavy rains may disrupt road and rail traffic.

Over the weekend, several areas in Mumbai and suburbs reported waterlogging, traffic congestion, and delayed local train services due to persistent rainfall.

Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, and further decisions regarding school operations and transport services will depend on the intensity of rainfall over the next few hours.
