“Caught Everyone Off Guard”: JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon On Trump’s H-1B Visa Fee

Published:

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has expressed sharp concern over the recent hike in H-1B visa fees announced by former US President Donald Trump, calling the move one that “caught everyone off guard.” Speaking during a business roundtable, Dimon highlighted the potential economic and operational impact such a decision could have on global companies that rely heavily on skilled foreign workers.

The H-1B visa program, which allows US firms to employ highly skilled professionals from abroad, has been central to sectors such as technology, finance, and healthcare. Dimon emphasized that sudden policy changes, without sufficient consultation with industry stakeholders, create uncertainty and disrupt business planning.

He noted that JPMorgan and other multinational firms employ thousands of H-1B workers, many of whom are critical to innovation, technology development, and day-to-day operations. “The issue is not just about costs; it’s about predictability,” Dimon said. “Companies need stability to compete globally. Abrupt increases in visa fees undermine that stability.”

The new fee structure, seen by some as an attempt to discourage foreign talent inflows, has already sparked debate across corporate America. Industry leaders warn that such measures could push skilled talent to other markets, weakening the US’s competitive edge.

Dimon urged policymakers to adopt a balanced approach that secures American interests while still welcoming the talent pool that has fueled US economic growth for decades. He reiterated that immigration has historically been a cornerstone of American success and that policies should aim to strengthen, not weaken, that legacy.
