Dehradun, 16th Sept: A massive cloudburst late Monday night unleashed devastation across Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district, damaging roads, houses and shops in Tapovan, Sahastradhara and the IT Park area. Videos shared by locals captured the scale of destruction.

A 100-metre stretch of road was washed away in Maldevta, Raipur, as floodwaters surged through the popular Sahastradhara tourist zone. Shops and hotels along Sahastradhara Road suffered heavy damage. The Tamsa river overflowed, submerging the historic Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple.

Temple priest Acharya Bipin Joshi said water began rising early morning, flooding the cave shrine. “Around 4:45 am, the water entered the cave. Later, it rose to 10–12 feet and reached above the Shivling. We escaped using a rope,” a local recounted.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, after visiting Kesarwala and Maldevta, confirmed that cloudbursts had occurred in multiple locations. “All rivers are in spate and roads have been completely washed away at about 25–30 places. Many connecting routes have been cut off,” he said, adding that relief and restoration efforts are underway.
