Bidar, 21st July: A sexual assault case has been registered against Pratik Chavan, son of BJP MLA Prabhu Chavan, following a complaint lodged at the Bidar Women’s Police Station on Sunday, according to police sources.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), the accused allegedly repeatedly raped the 25-year-old victim between December 25, 2023, and March 27, 2024, after promising her marriage and formally getting engaged.
The complaint, filed by the woman, states that she, a resident of Maharashtra, was led to believe that Pratik Chavan would marry her. She alleged that their relationship began approximately two years ago, with Pratik Chavan initiating regular contact and eventually making a marriage promise. Based on this assurance, he reportedly brought her to Bengaluru in September 2023, where the first alleged assault occurred in a hotel room.
The formal engagement ceremony took place on December 25, 2023, at the accused’s residence in Ghamsubai Bonthi Tanda, Aurad taluk, Bidar, in the presence of family members from both sides.
However, despite repeated requests from the victim’s family, no wedding date was finalized, the complainant stated. Instead, she was allegedly lured to various locations, including Latur and Shirdi, under the pretext of travel and religious visits, during which she was reportedly sexually assaulted multiple times. The complaint further alleges a deeply disturbing incident where, after coercing her to prove her love, the accused forced the victim to self-inflict a wound on her forearm. When she hesitated, he allegedly took the blade and caused a deep cut himself. This injury reportedly came to light when the woman sought treatment at a hospital in Udgir.
Efforts by the woman’s family to finalize the marriage were met with outright rejection. The complainant stated that on July 5, 2025, when her family approached the accused’s residence to set a wedding date, both Pratik Chavan and his father allegedly refused and told them they could “do whatever they wanted.”
Police sources confirmed that a case has been registered, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
