₹10,000 Crore Allocated in Union Budget to Boost Bihar’s Railway Network

Published:

The Union Government has allocated ₹10,000 crore in the Union Budget 2025–26 for strengthening railway infrastructure in Bihar, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced during his recent visit to Samastipur. The investment is intended to support the expansion of new railway lines, station redevelopment, improved passenger amenities, and enhanced safety measures across the state.

Addressing the public during the bhoomi pujan ceremony at Karpoori Gram station, Vaishnaw confirmed that the funds will be directed towards key infrastructure projects. These include the Bhagalpur–Jamalpur third line at a cost of ₹1,156 crore, the doubling of the Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya section for ₹2,017 crore, and the Rampurhat–Bhagalpur doubling project valued at ₹3,000 crore.

The government has also approved the development of four Amrit Bharat Express trains to connect important cities within and outside Bihar. New routes are expected to include Patna to Delhi, Darbhanga to Lucknow, Malda to Lucknow, and Saharsa to Amritsar, significantly improving interstate travel and connectivity for passengers.

Bihar’s railway network has undergone major transformation in recent years, with full electrification now achieved across the state. According to the Railway Ministry, over 1,832 kilometres of new tracks have been laid under the current government, while an additional 1,783 kilometres have been upgraded with modern train protection systems.

As part of the broader redevelopment strategy, more than 1,300 railway stations across India are being modernised under the Amrit Bharat scheme. In Bihar, the redevelopment of select stations is already underway, with enhanced amenities such as new waiting halls, digital ticketing systems, upgraded platforms, and better sanitation infrastructure.

Minister Vaishnaw also reviewed the transfer of Karpoori Gram station from the Sonpur division to the Samastipur division, which will streamline operational management. Additionally, he inspected improvements in the Jamalpur workshop and technical training institutes across the state, where ₹350 crore has been allocated for infrastructure upgrades.

The announcement reaffirms the Centre’s commitment to accelerating development in Bihar through targeted investment in transport infrastructure, with a focus on improving rail safety, efficiency, and passenger experience.
