Chennai, April 13, 2025:
In a significant political development, BJP MLA Nainar Nagendran was unanimously elected as the President of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday. The announcement was made at a party meeting held in Chennai, where Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh officially declared Nagendran’s election.
Nagendran succeeds K. Annamalai, who emphasized during his farewell address that the party’s main objective is to remove the ruling DMK from power in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. Annamalai referred to DMK as an “evil shakthi” and declared that the BJP’s path forward, in alliance with the AIADMK, is now clear with Nagendran at the helm.
The announcement also confirmed that the BJP and AIADMK have sealed their alliance for the 2026 Assembly polls, signaling a renewed attempt to challenge the DMK’s dominance in the state. The leadership change is seen as part of a strategic reshuffle ahead of the crucial elections.
Nainar Nagendran, a seasoned politician and sitting MLA, is expected to bring new momentum to the party’s campaign in Tamil Nadu, a state where the BJP has been striving to make deeper inroads.
