EAM Jaishankar, sharing details of the meeting on X, expressed his appreciation for von der Leyen’s commitment to strengthening India-EU engagement. “Pleased to call on European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Delhi. Appreciate her thoughts on reenergizing India’s engagement with Europe. The wide ranging participation of Indian Ministers and EU College of Commissioners during this visit stands testimony to the importance we place on deeper India-EU ties,” he wrote.

Von der Leyen, accompanied by the European Union College of Commissioners, is in India to participate in the second ministerial meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) and other high-level bilateral discussions. The visit underlines the growing significance of India as a strategic partner for Europe in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

Upon her arrival in Delhi, she was given a warm welcome by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel. During her visit, she is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, where discussions will center on taking the India-EU strategic partnership to the next level.

This marks von der Leyen’s third visit to India. She previously visited the country for a bilateral engagement in April 2022 and later attended the G20 Leaders’ Summit in September 2023. Over the years, she and PM Modi have held regular discussions on the sidelines of multilateral meetings, further reinforcing diplomatic ties.
