The Nagaragawa International Regatta Course, located along the Nagara River between Aisai City in Aichi Prefecture and Kaizu City in Gifu Prefecture, will host rowing at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
The venue features a straight 2,000-metre international-standard course, making it one of the few facilities of its kind in Japan.
A venue with a historic legacy
The course was developed to meet the requirements of elite international rowing and later gained global recognition in 2005, when it hosted the World Rowing Championships. It was the first time the World Rowing Championships had been held in Asia, putting the Nagaragawa course on the international rowing map.
Rowing in focus
For Aichi-Nagoya 2026, the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course will once again welcome leading rowers from across Asia.
The course has a 2,000-metre straight layout with 10 lanes, providing the space required for high-level competition. The Asian Games rowing programme will feature men’s and women’s events across different boat classes.
A region shaped by rivers
The course sits in a region where water has played an important role in everyday life. Kaizu City is located around the meeting point of the Kiso, Ibi and Nagara rivers, giving the area a strong connection with waterways and river management.
The region also has a rich agricultural tradition, with its landscape shaped over generations by the surrounding rivers.
More than a competition venue
When it is not hosting major international events, the regatta course serves as a venue for rowing competitions and training. It is used for national and regional regattas, including competitions involving schools, colleges and clubs.
The wider facility also provides areas for athlete preparation and training, supporting the needs of competitive rowing.
Ready for another major event
Nearly two decades after making history as the first Asian venue to host the World Rowing Championships, the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course is preparing for another major international sporting event.
At Aichi-Nagoya 2026, the Nagara River will once again become a stage for elite rowing, as athletes from across Asia compete on one of Japan’s most established international regatta courses.
How to reach the venue
The Nagaragawa International Regatta Course can be easily reached by train and bus. Public transport is recommended during the Asian Games due to road and parking restrictions around the venue.
By train: From Nagoya Station, take a regional train to the Yoro Railway Line and get off at Ishizu Station.
By bus: From Ishizu Station, take the Kaizu Community Bus and get off at the stop serving the venue.
