Subject: The 21st Convocation Ceremony of St. Joseph’s Engineering College (SJEC) was held in two phases on August 29, 2026 at Kalam Auditorium, Mangalore. Degree certificates were distributed to 570 B.E. graduates and two Ph.D. graduates during the ceremony.
The morning ceremony saw the conferment of certificates to graduates of Mechanical, Civil, Electrical & Electronics and Electronics & Communication Engineering. Francis D’Souza, Managing Director, F4 Holdings India Private Limited, was the chief guest and Richard Nazareth, Engineering Leader, Broadcom R&D, VMware, was the guest of honour.
The afternoon session saw the conferment of degrees to students from the departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Computer Science and Business Systems and Computer Science and Data Science. Dr. Archana Mantri, Chancellor of Anurag University, Hyderabad, was the chief guest and Ms. Ansi Jovita Crasta, Senior Product Development Manager, Siemens, an alumnus of the institution, was the guest of honour.
The Bishop of Mangalore Diocese and President of the College, His Eminence Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, presided over the program.
The Director of the Institute, Rev. Fr. Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, gave the introductory speech and welcomed everyone. Dean of the Academic Department, Dr. Binu K. G. introduced the guests of the morning session and Dean of the Student Welfare Department, Dr. K. Jyothi introduced the guests of the evening session.
Speaking at the event, Richard Nazareth called for resilience, leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and solidifying fundamental principles. Francis D’Souza, remembering the sacrifice of his parents, mentioned the importance of practical skills, dedication and persistence. Ansi Jovita Crasta advised continuous learning, mastery of fundamentals over temporary trends, and maintaining honesty and gratitude in his career. Dr. Archana Mantri, commending the leadership of SJEC, wished the students to leave the left-wing and continuously learn and create their own unique path.
In his presidential address, Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha called for developing a non-defeatist attitude, accepting setbacks as learning experiences, and respecting the important pillars of life, such as parents, teachers, and friends.
Co-Director Vm. Fr. Kenneth R. Crasta, Chief Administrator Dr. John D’Silva, Deans and Heads of various departments were present at the event. The morning session moderator Dr. Ashwathi C. M. and the evening session moderator Supriya Salyan proposed the vote of thanks. The program was compered by Florence Nishmita and Abhilash R. V. (morning) and Jaishma Kumari and Daniela Neeta Ferrao (evening). The event concluded with the national anthem.
