Bengaluru: A four-year-old love marriage ended in tragedy after an engineer couple was found dead at their rented home in Bengaluru’s Rajagopalnagar police station limits on Friday afternoon, leaving their families shocked.
Couple found dead at rented home
The deceased have been identified as Sumanth Jain, 32, from Belthangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district, and his wife Padmavati, 29, from Hubballi.
Sumanth was working as a civil engineer in Nandini Layout, while Padmavati was employed as a software engineer with a private company in Whitefield, police said.
The couple had been in a relationship before getting married four years ago. They were living in a rented house in Bank Layout, Rajeshwari Nagar, near Laggere.
Their bodies were discovered inside the residence on Friday afternoon. Police sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and registered a case of unnatural death.
Messages sent before the deaths raise concern
According to police, the couple had reportedly been fighting since August 13. Investigators suspect that Sumanth may have killed his wife before taking his own life, although the exact cause and sequence of the deaths are yet to be established.
Police sources said Padmavati had sent a WhatsApp message to her mother before her death, asking her to take the gold ornaments given to her during the wedding and saying she was going to die.
Sumanth also reportedly sent a message asking that his PF money and belongings be taken, while referring to an argument with his wife over their house.
Police investigation underway
The police have informed both families about the incident. Investigators are examining the messages, circumstances at the residence and post-mortem findings to establish what happened.
The exact cause of death remains unknown, and police are awaiting further evidence before drawing conclusions about the incident.
