Rajgarh: Fear gripped residents of Ashirwad Kunj on Tikkar Road in Rajgarh, Sirmaur, after a leopard reportedly entered a residential house in the early hours and was captured on CCTV moving through the premises three times.
Leopard enters house through rooftop
According to homeowner Dinesh Sharma, the leopard entered the house through the rooftop before making its way down the staircase and into the corridor.
The animal was first spotted at around 3.40 am. It reportedly fled after the family dog began barking but returned nearly 30 minutes later.
During the second visit at around 4.10 am, the leopard allegedly attacked the family’s pet dog and puppies before picking up one of the puppies and carrying it away.
Leopard returns for third time
The animal reportedly returned again at around 4.40 am. During its third visit, it was seen carrying another puppy in its mouth.
The repeated movement of the leopard inside the residential premises has caused concern among the family and tenants living at the property. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the house.
Residents seek Forest Department intervention
Dinesh Sharma has urged the Forest Department to intervene immediately and take preventive measures to stop the leopard from entering residential properties.
Residents have also appealed to the department to closely monitor leopard movement in the Rajgarh area and take timely steps to protect people living in the locality.
According to the report, leopard sightings and similar incidents have occurred in the area from time to time, raising particular concerns about the safety of children and other residents.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over encounters between wildlife and human settlements in areas where residential neighbourhoods are located close to wildlife habitats.
